What is LPS 1175?
LPS 1175 is a security standard used to test how well products, including steel doors, can resist an attempted break-in. During testing, different tools and methods are used to see how long a product can resist an attack.
What’s the difference between LPS 1175 Issue 7 and Issue 8?
Issue 7 used ratings from SR1 to SR8. Issue 8 introduced a rating that shows both the type of tools used and how long the product resisted the attack.
For example: C5 = Category C tools + 5 minutes minimum resistance. This makes it easier to understand the level of testing a product has been through.
What is new about LPS 1175 Issue 8?
Put simply, Issue 8 updated the way security products are tested and rated. The testing was updated to better represent the tools and methods that could be used during a modern attack.
Some of the changes include:
- More capable tools being used during testing.
- Changes to the size and specification of certain tools.
- New tools and attack methods being introduced.
- A new way of showing a product’s security rating.
Why does this change matter to me?
Two doors with similar-looking security ratings may not have been tested in exactly the same way. A door tested to Issue 7 and a door tested to Issue 8 may have faced different tools and testing requirements. So, when comparing LPS 1175 security doors, don’t just look at the security rating, also check which standard the door has been tested and certified to.
At Strongdor, our Securidor S2 security doors are certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8, meaning they have been tested against the updated requirements of the standard. This is important when comparing security doors, as products certified to Issue 7 and Issue 8 have not necessarily been tested in the same way. Always check the issue as well as the security rating to make sure you’re making a fair comparison.
